about

I've always had a love for the romanticized version of the Road--the driving need to see the world, interest in foreign cultures and customs, breathtaking architecture and landscapes, a secret bond with unseen treasures, the unpredictability, lighting up other travelers' faces with story and song. This all should be fairly evident in how I play my LARP characters :D

This song is originally from the World of Pahmoten, but obviously finds home in the modern world as well.

lyrics

Oh come to me, you Mourning Wind, and lift me from my rest.
Many miles have I to go before this journey’s through.
So give to me Your fevered strength, that I may not lay down,
That I may find a peace of mind, this rover asks of You.

chorus (after every verse)
This is the Rovers’ Lullaby, it helps us carry on.
It’s not too slow, won’t make you cry, but weariness is gone.
As night lays down, we wonder, all, what’s there that eyes can’t see?
In bends and hills, we hear the call: the Road’s where we long to be.

Well, every city dazzles with a myriad of hues:
Silver bells on crimson skirts, blue banners flying high,
And miles and miles of hidden streets, whose wonders never end.
They’re each a jewel so faceted in every brilliant light.

What governs need inside of us and pushes us to roam:
The thought that we might find that thing we’ve never known before
In thunderstorms and valleys wide, in every tale we hear.
We pray our steps will never cease this endless, sleepless war.

The greed for coin and treasure brings the peaceful to kill
For hoard which cannot be brought beyond the gates of death;
So give us emerald woodlands and golden fields of grain,
For money next to Nature’s gifts are always worth far less.

It winds along a river bank, and climbs into the sky,
Trudges through old, weary cloisters hidden in our head.
Whatever form the Road may take, invisible or seen,
O’er desert, swamp, or hardened heart, we evermore will tread.

We all will have that memory as strong as northern winds,
Like candlelight in window small, in night so deep and dark.
In autumn rain and summer sun, in winter’s blesséd snow,
It wraps around our very soul and beckons home our heart.
